Get the FACTS, And Your GPL!
You might not be aware of this fact, but someone on the internet owes you a great deal!
PromotingLinux.com has carefully combed through the GPL EULA. We have discovered that it is designed to hide both the facts and your rights.
The terms of the GPL agreement stipulate that any organization or website that uses the Linux or GPL EULA’d code and technologies must provide all visitors that ask with: 1) the source code to the back-end technologies used, 2) the database data, and 3) the raw source-code for the websites.
If you come upon a website that uses either Apache, PHP, or MySQL (or any other Linux-based technology) copy and past the following text and demand what is owed to you!
—Start Copy-Paste Here—
I have detected that you are using the Linux EULA and/or the GPL.
You must abide by the terms stipulated and “open source” your organization/websites to me.
- You have to provide the source code on request to any Linux-based technologies used, *if* that technology is public facing.
- You have to provide and “open-source” any patches/modifications made to those technologies, regardless if that technology is used only internally or is public facing.
- You have to provide the raw source code and database data for all public facing websites running on those technologies.
I now stipulate that you should provide me with all the above and also submit to my GNU/FOSS audit which I will conduct of your facilities on __/__/__.
Sincerely,
<Name>
<your-email-address>P.S. If you don’t comply you will be sorry!

Could you maybe give us some insight as to where to find these claims in the Linux EULA and/or the GPL?
October 25th, 2008 at 5:54 pm
Sounds like what the RIAA is sending out to people who file-share. Maybe form letters is the what people learn to do in law school.
I see that you’ve not obliged us with a citation to validate your statement. Its been over a month.
I’d really really love to see one quote that supports your argument.

you are retard that isn’t true.

If you ever receive such a request, copy-paste the following text :
—Start Copy-Paste Here—
I have detected that you certainly don’t know what you’re talking about. I suggest you read the relevant licenses.
Please stop spreading FUD and let people go back to business.
Sincerely,
P.S. It’s so sad it’s not even funny.

And BTW, I know that’s not even true under the http://www.apache.org/licenses/LICENSE-2.0.html (Apache License) … Microsoft is old and people who use it depend on and put faith in failing systems – pray your Corporation will save you. All free software fails or survives, but I believe each is always on a path to becoming something better, not windows (i mean worse).

And BTW http://www.apache.org/licenses/

“PromotingLinux.com has carefully combed through the GPL EULA.”
>> Please try reading it, you can comb it later..
Or atleast read the following excerpts from
http://www.gnu.org/licenses/gpl-faq.html
Does the GPL require that source code of modified versions be posted to the public?
The GPL does not require you to release your modified version, or any part of it. You are free to make modifications and use them privately, without ever releasing them. This applies to organizations (including companies), too; an organization can make a modified version and use it internally without ever releasing it outside the organization.
But if you release the modified version to the public in some way, the GPL requires you to make the modified source code available to the program’s users, under the GPL.
Thus, the GPL gives permission to release the modified program in certain ways, and not in other ways; but the decision of whether to release it is up to you.
If I know someone has a copy of a GPL-covered program, can I demand he give me a copy?
No. The GPL gives him permission to make and redistribute copies of the program if he chooses to do so. He also has the right not to redistribute the program, if that is what he chooses.

Little known facts about the GPL:
1. The GPL is a license, and not a contract … your clients can sue you at will!
2. One slight infraction of the GPL will force all your proprietary code to have its sources opened.
3. No one chooses the GPL; it is rather imposed on them. Think about it! It’s a distribution EULA, not an end-user EULA. You can never accept it, you must submit to it.
4. Once you die, all the code you have ever written must be open sourced.
July 13th, 2009 at 7:25 pm
5. Every line of the GPL must have at least two lines at minimum explaining and clarifying the previous line. The license grows exponentially.
July 13th, 2009 at 9:02 pm
6. Answer to any question related to the GPL: maybe.
The GPL does not stand on any ground. It has never been tested in court.

“FOSS, I have argued, is so often an intellectual fraud, and one that benefits corporations who profit from it, and it is maintained by the naivety of every rising generation of youth who imagine that by producing FOSS they are saving the world.”
